Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Have You Been in Business?

KP Motorworks, the Volvo Doctor, has been in business since 2004. We are constantly growing, and we really enjoy helping Volvo owners throughout Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, and Sonoma County with their vehicles.

How Can You Claim to Provide Better Than Dealership Service? Aren't They the True Experts on My Vehicle?

KP Motorworks hires only the best technicians to service and repair your Volvo. We subscribe to manufacturer websites specifically available to independent repair facilities, along with a number of professional databases, to get the latest diagnostic information, technical service bulletins, and fault pattern trends. We use parts that have been redesigned to prevent future issues that the original part had when made by the manufacturer.

Dealerships hire from the same pool of technicians that independent shops do, and because of their pay scale, culture, limited room for individual growth, and internal politics, we are able to attract and keep the most talented technicians. Most of our technicians have various levels of factory Volvo training. Because we are so confident in our services, we give a longer warranty than the dealer provides on theirs.

Why Are Your Fluid Flushes Priced Slightly Higher Than the Local Quick-Lube?

Great question! At KP Motorworks, we use the very best fluids available, based on your Volvo's specifications and our experience. Quick-lubes, and even dealerships, often use aftermarket fluids and filters to increase their margin. But who are they really looking out for, you or their bottom line? We always have you and your vehicle's best interest in mind.

Why Can't You Always Provide Me With an Estimate When I Call for One?

We would love to give you an estimate over the phone, but doing a "phone estimate" is actually a disservice to you. Many times we've found people are trying to compare prices with other shops for a needed maintenance or repair, but there can be many variables that change the price of an estimate. We've also found that competitors sometimes try to sell services or repairs that aren't actually needed, or that the problem has been misdiagnosed. Proper diagnostics need to be done on your Volvo before an accurate estimate can be given.

The best thing you can do is bring your vehicle by and let one of our fantastic technicians take a look. Please try to avoid becoming a victim of the classic bait and switch. Remember, the cheapest price won't always give you the best service or warranty.

If I Have My Vehicle Maintained at KP Motorworks, Can That Void My Factory Warranty?

No. Preventive maintenance on today's vehicles is very important, especially on newer Volvos. If you have a new Volvo still under factory warranty, there's great news: you can take your vehicle to KP Motorworks for service, and your factory warranty will remain in effect. How so? Simple, it's the law.

In 1975, the U.S. Congress passed the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a federal law that governs consumer product warranties. Among other things, Congress wanted to ensure that consumers could get complete and straightforward information about warranty terms and conditions.

In short, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act gives you these rights:

  • Generally, your vehicle manufacturer's warranty cannot require you to return to your auto dealer for vehicle maintenance, or to only use the brand of replacement parts offered by that dealer.
  • By law, your vehicle manufacturer's warranty will stay in effect when you have regularly scheduled maintenance performed at a qualified facility, like KP Motorworks, that uses appropriate parts and procedures.

Additionally, we are a Carfax certified shop, so all maintenance and repairs will be reported to them. Doing this fortifies the documented history of your vehicle and reinforces its resale value.

The bottom line: your warranty on your new Volvo stays in effect when a qualified service and repair facility, such as KP Motorworks, performs preventive maintenance.
